Pansy 'Madame Butterfly'
This new variety of pansy has been selected by Bedding Plants Australia (BPA) as their 'Flower of the Year'. The intriguing mix of blue and yellow is reminiscent of a tropical butterfly. Launched by Olympic butterfly swimming champion, Susie O'Neill: "I am delighted to be associated with such a beautiful Flower of the Year. The bright yellow and blue colours evoke images of sun and water", said Susie. The Fred Hollows Foundation will benefit from sales of this pansy with BPA donating a share of the proceeds to assist in this work restoring the sight of thousands of people throughout the world.

Pansy Giant in shades of velvet Introduced last year by Oasis, in five colours; blue, red, rose, yellow and white. Upward facing flowers are held on short, stout stems. They proved so popular that this year they have released a rich velvet Purple Shades and Blue Shades, a combination of dark and light tones to highlight their faces. Also new this year is Giant Pansy Mix. All these varieties are available in Oasis Eziplanter six cell punnet.

Garden rooms into ballrooms The latest in the SO BEAUTIFUL range from Floriana, the bluest of blue shades of pansy with layers of shapely ruffled edges to add softness and colour impact to borders. Pansy 'Ruffled Blue' - a large, inky black-faced flower that stands out against lush green foliage.  Plant in stark white pots for a contemporary feel.  Height:  20cm Pansy 'Real Ruffled'#1 - large flowers with black faces in red, blue, white and yellow; grow to 20cm. Pansy 'Ruby Blues'#7 - deep ruby and rich blue, with a tiny yellow eye.
Kalanchoe 'Flapjacks' Each succulent green leaf looks as though the tips have been dipped in maroon paint with rounded foliage that stands erect. The flowers are best removed to encourage new growth. The species, Kalanchoe thyrsiflora, is native to South Africa and grows to 60cms. This variety 'Flapjacks' is dwarf, well suited to pots. Grow it in hot sunny position and watch the frost. A set and forget type of plant that will attract attention.

Erigeron 'Spindrift' This well-known plant is known as Babies Tears or Seaside Daisy. It was Edna Walling's signature; she used it to soften walls and steps and to define curves. Its big problem is its free seeding nature that makes it smother a garden. The seeds of Erigeron 'Spindrift' are not as fertile as the species. The dainty daisy flowers open white and fade to various shades of pink and wine red.
Alocasia 'Jungle Green' This new variegated form Alocasia macrorrhiza 'Jungle Green' or Elephant Ear, has large fresh green foliage with bold cream markings. With glorious heart-shaped leaves, this relative of the taro (Colocasia) comes from the tropics so it loves hot, steamy conditions and hates frost. You can grow it indoors while young, as it loves a warm humid atmosphere with plenty of moisture.

Colocasia 'Black Magic' This lovely dark Colocasia esculenta called 'Black Magic' will quickly grow into a clump 1.5m tall and 1m wide. A perfect marginal water plant for damp garden areas, it gives a new dimension to shade and to water features. The leaves are purple/black and heart shaped, about 60cms long. Give it moist conditions and fertile soils for good growth. Light shade is best. Feed with controlled release fertiliser such as Garden Gold and well composted animal manure.

Sedum 'Mystique' throws up the bronze palette. The latest addition to this huge genus of succulents, 'Mystique' is a quick growing perennial with fleshy green leaves, tipped with bright bronze red. It makes an impression in the garden because of its interesting form.
Ranunculus Tangerine In a stark white vase, the full, fat tangerine flowers make a statement. These deliciously plump blooms make the perfect cut flower display.  Ranunculus love full winter sun, and are suited to courtyard and balcony settings.

Mini Cyclamen Shady Glade Burgundy A striking contrast to the simplicity and sophistication of the season's classic white.  Plant in drifts in shady corners of the garden or line up in individual pots for a contemporary look.  Prefers a cool shady spot. Height:  10-12cm.

Pak Choy Mix - new from Floriana. Pak Choy Mix, a combination of green stemmed Bok Choy and white stemmed Pak Choy.  Rich in vitamins, it is perfect for Asian stir-fries.  Plant in full sun and protect small seedlings from birds.
