Japan in Autumn 2010 Graham Ross is in Japan with 20 Ross Garden travellers who have been left speechless by the chrysanthemum displays. It’s just started snowing on the mountain tops, but the excellent sake is keeping everyone warm. Autumn is the most colourful of Japan’s four distinct seasons, a peaceful and serene season where the forest change colour before the snow season. For those who haven’t experienced it, the changing autumn colours are a magnificent thing. You will see fiery crimson and golden yellow hues of maples and ginkgos, Japanese Rowan Japanese larch, Japanese zelkova, beech, Japanese horse chestnut, birch, Japanese lacquer tree and rhododendron, gradually spread through Japan from mid-late September to early December. The tour also takes in the magical Nagoya Castle and the renowned Chrysanthemum Exhibition which has captivated Graham since he first saw it in 1980 in the castle gardens. Chrysanthemum flowers range in size up to 50cm and from one to 5,000 blooms per plant. Images thanks to www.rosstours.com.au
