Feijoa Feijoa sellowiana
Description: The overwhelming fragrance of this fruit will often be your introduction to this fruit, like mango the fruit has a distinct fragrance that permeated the kitchen!
Size: Often described as a small shrub, the feijoa can reach 4m tall
Care: Trees thrive on neglect and will withstand heat, dry periods and cold. They make great edible wind break hedges and can be pruned to create a formal hedge as well.
To eat:
The fruit has the taste and aroma of strawberry, pineapple, lemon, passionfruit and guava all mixed together. Small egg shaped and sized fruit hang green from the tree and will turn yellow when ripe. Spoon out the seeds and eat the fresh fruit skin and all for best flavour. The tiny edible seeds are embedded in a jellylike center. Or use fruit for jelly.The spectacular purple, pink and white flowers have sweet delicious petals that make a superb ingredient in sweets and drinks.
