A fabulous summer/autumn flowering shrub, big and blousy. Flowers are either pink or brick red and resemble an orchid although some prefer to think of them as butterflies.
Like all bauhinias, the bright green leaves are twin-lobed to set off the flowers to perfection. Give it plenty of sunshine, good soil (enriched with compost). Frost tender when young, but once mature it will not mind an occasional frost. Prune lightly after flowering to prevent the over-production of untidy seed pods.
If space is tight you might like to espalier one onto a brick wall where it will flower magnificently.
