Coral Bark Maple

Coral Barked Maple or 'Senkaki'
Description: A handsome small tree for small gardens. The most conspicuous feature of  'Senkaki' is its bright
red bark during winter, which is especially striking on the younger wood.  Foliage colour is gold/lime green in spring and gold/red in autumn. Spring leaves are bright lime green  4-6cm wide and has double serrate margins.

Use: A small shade tree that provides small areas of shade and protection to fragile plants below such as hellebores, fuchsias, violets and daphne. Or in twin pots either side of a gate or entrance.

Size: Upright and spreading, it will grow to 3-4 m in the garden, less in a pot. Vase shaped canopy.

Use: Looks good when planted with other Japanese Maples such as 'Nigrum' with deep claret colour that is quite dark, appearing almost black at times. Sensational in a large decorative pot underplanted simply with ornamental grass, mondo grass or liriope.
