Potted citrus
Citrus do well in pots in sunny areas of a balcony, deck or patio. Start them off in medium size pots and gradually pot them into a larger pots as they grow and the roots fill the existing pot. We grow Tahitian Lime, Eureka Lemon, Washington Navel and Kaffir Lime with great success in pots. Most of these varieties are available as a dwarf plant grafted onto "Flying Dragon" rootstock giving full-sized fruit on a smaller plant more suitable for pots. Prune after fruiting and feed every season. Keep up the moisture with a drip irrigation system during the heat of summer.

Conditions: Frost tolerant and tolerant of coastal conditions, give it full sun and well drained soil. Great for pots. Prolific bearer, up to 9 months of the year. It is wise to remove fruit in the first 2 years to allow growth of leaves, stems and branches (this will help to support the fruit later on).

Maintenance: Feed spring, autumn and winter with Garden Gold and a sprinkle of Citrus food. Fertilise regularly with suitable Citrus food such as Dynamic Lifter for Citrus. Prune to maintain even distribution of both Citrus varieties and avoid one dominating the other.

Pests:
Use PestOil or Eco Oil for any Citrus Leaf Minor, this shows itself as tunneling in the leaves. As with all citrus regularly spray, especially over the warmer months for insect pests such as aphids, stinkbugs and leaf-miner using Eco-Oil or Pest Oil.

There are various dwarf citrus available on the market today. We love plants grafted onto "Flying Dragon" root stock that originates from the land famous for Bonsai…..Japan.
Flying Dragon is an extraordinary root stock that inhibits the overall size of the citrus tree but does not restrict fruit size or crop yield. The Flying Dragon range of dwarf citrus trees are ideal for the modern urban garden, the small courtyard and balconies. Compact and well behaved these amazing dwarf citrus trees will happily live in pots for many, many years producing delicious crops of full sized citrus fruit.
